GANGATH VILLAGE: A HUB OF DEVOTION AND TRADITION

Gangath, a small yet historically rich town nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, lies in the Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. With a population of approximately 2200 and an area spanning 5 square kilometers, Gangath is known for its natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Historically, Gangath was renowned for its brass utensil craftsmen, locally called "THATHERAS", and was once popularly known as "BHANDIAN WALA SHAHAR"—the town of brass makers. Geographically, Gangath is located at 32°13'3" N latitude and 75°50'25" E longitude, situated in the western part of Distt Kangra .

According to local mythology, the town was named "GANGATH" because the sacred waters of the River Ganga were believed to flow continuously through the CHHOUNCHH KHAD (ravine). During British rule, it was also referred to as "GANGATHAL", a name attributed to GOVERNOR GENERAL WARREN HASTINGS.

Gangath is a beautiful and culturally rich village known for its deep-rooted spirituality and traditions. The village is home to the revered SEEDH PEETH BABA KYALU JI MAHARAJ , a sacred place that draws countless devotees seeking blessings and spiritual solace.

Every year in the month of June, Gangath proudly hosts a National-Level Wrestling Fair(CHHING MELA), attracting wrestling champions and enthusiasts from across India, keeping alive the age-old tradition of Indian wrestling.

The village is also blessed with a unique and divine SHIV TEMPLE, which houses a WHITE SHIVLING adorned with 1100 RUDRA’S—a rare sight believed to be the only one of its kind in India. This sacred temple adds to the spiritual significance of Gangath, making it a must-visit destination for devotees and tourists alike.

Gangath beautifully blends spirituality, culture, and tradition, making it a true gem of devotion and heritage.
